Gurukul Bhatta Pathshala: Empowering Jhajjar’s Marginalized Communities
Jhajjar, a district in Haryana, is home to the highest number of brick kilns in Asia, with over 453 operating in the region. These kilns attract thousands of migrant laborers, primarily from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), who often endure exploitative working conditions and lack access to basic amenities.
The children of these workers frequently accompany their parents to the kilns, where they are exposed to hazardous environments and are often deprived of formal education. This perpetuates a cycle of illiteracy and poverty across generations.

In response to this pressing issue, Indepth Vision Foundation established Gurukul Bhatta Pathshala—a grassroots educational initiative aimed at providing basic education to the children of brick kiln workers in Jhajjar. The foundation operates mobile classes directly at kiln sites, ensuring education reaches children who would otherwise be deprived of it due to their parents' transient lifestyles and economic challenges. Through its sustained efforts, Gurukul Bhatta Pathshala has successfully helped many children from brick kiln communities transition into the mainstream education system. These children, who previously had little or no access to formal schooling due to their families’ transient work, are now enrolled in regular schools. This initiative ensures they continue their learning journey, gain essential skills, and move towards breaking the cycle of generational illiteracy in their communities.

Awareness Programmes in Schools
❤️ Good Touch & Bad Touch Awareness
Child abuse is a serious concern in India and Haryana, including districts like Jhajjar, where marginalized communities are particularly vulnerable. In 2023, India reported 177,335 cases of crimes against children, a 9.2% increase from the previous year. Studies show that nearly 29% of children experience some form of sexual abuse, and in most cases, the perpetrators are known to the child. Many cases go unreported, leaving children unaware of how to protect themselves.
At Indepth Vision Foundation, we educate children, especially from brick kiln and migrant labor communities, about good touch and bad touch, personal boundaries, and the importance of speaking up if they feel unsafe. Our programs use interactive sessions, role-playing, and educational materials to ensure children understand and retain the information. Through these initiatives, we empower children with essential life skills, helping them recognize unsafe situations and seek help. By combining awareness with practical guidance, we create a safer environment for children to learn, grow, and thrive, directly tackling the vulnerabilities highlighted by national and regional statistics.
